The disadvantage is proper soil preparation and light, frequent watering are essential for success in establishing a lawn from broadcast seed. Fall lawn installations are best for broadcast seeded lawns because weed seeds are not germinating.
Hydroseed
The best chance of establishing a successful lawn is by starting with hydroseeding. Hydroseeding solves the main problem of a broadcast seed lawn: moisture retention. The wood fiber or paper mulch is loaded with fertilizer and ensures the lawn gets off to a fast start.
Sod
